Ensuring Proper Fit:
How to measure.

The key to looking one's best in any form of clothing is to ensure that the garment fits properly. This is an abbreviated tutorial on how to measure yourself.

The first thing you need is a tape measure. Unless you were measured very recently, we recommend that you measure yourself again.

Measuring the Chest:
  • Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, under the armpits.
  • The tape measure should be snug. Not so tight that it constricts breathing, but not so loose that the tape measure slides down.
  • No need to flex or puff out your chest. Just stand normally.

Measuring Sleeve Length:
  • Measure from the top of the shoulder, at the joint, down to the wrist bone.
Measuring the Waist:

You need to measure your "natural" waist. Most vintage pant styles sit higher than modern jeans.
  • Measure around your waist at about navel level.
  • Be sure to put a finger in between the tape and your stomach to ensure a comfortable fit.
Measuring the Inseam:

(You might need some help with this one.)
  • Remove your shoes.
  • Make sure the tape is tight along the inside of your leg, and that you are standing straight.
  • Measure from the lowest part of your crotch area to the floor.  By measuring to the floor, it guarantees that the pants will have enough fabric for tailoring, if needed.
Measuring for a Hat:
  • Take the tape measure and wrap it around your crown approximately 1.5 inches above your ears.
  • Now use the chart to convert the measurement into the proper hat size fraction.

Inches Cm. Hat Size
